Man Mo Temple

Man Mo Temple - served as one of the oldest temples and highest courts of the Qing dynasty. Dedicated to Man, god of literature, and Mo, god of war, the temple houses two enormous sedan chairs to seat the gods during processions and festivals. Further along, the Kung Sor hall was used as the highest court of justice before the introduction of the modern judicial system. In Qing times, these oaths and disputes were followed by the ritual beheading of a rooster!

Anne Frank Huis

The writer's house and biographical museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist, Anne Frank, attracts more than a million visitors a year. Together with seven others Anne Frank hides in the secret annex at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. After more than two years in hiding they are discovered and deported to concentration camps. The museum's treasure is the original red and green checked diary that Anne Frank wrote while she was in hiding. Many personal documents and objects belonging to the Frank family are also preserved in the museum. Until June 2018, visiting the Anne Frank House is only possible with a ticket purchased online.

In ʼt Aepjen

A charming bar with a good story to tell, In't Aepjen,is located on the corner of the old Zeedijk, near the infamous red light district. Of all the old wooden buildings that had made up the historic city before the 1452 fire, only two survived. One of these premises was this inn. “In’t Aepjen” literally means “In the Monkeys,” and refers to a time, when sailors returning from distant colonies, and finding themselves short of guilders, would offer up their newly acquired pets, often monkeys, as payment. Inside its small and dark yet welcoming with a decent array of beers and spirits to choose from. Try a splash of locally made jenever if you want to have a properly traditional Dutch experience.

World Cup 2018: 10 things you should know before travelling to Russia

It's football time! For those lucky ones who are travelling to Russia to celebrate the World Cup, here’s your essential guide on what you should know before travelling to Russia.

1. Visa, visa and visa.

You probably need a visa to enter Russia. You must obtain it way before you travel there. Applications are made online over here - www.visitrussia.org.uk. Tourist visas (single entry; valid for up to 30 days) require a passport valid for a minimum of six months, and costs around $150.

2. Getting around

Try to sort out your transport beforehand.

It's better to book airport transfer in advance to secure the price and the car. It is busy period with thousands of people travelling, so there is a chance that prices will be exceptionally high. You can book your airport transfer through Mitty app. In Moscow, taking a train from the airport directly to City Center will definitely be a better option to skip the traffic jam.

Moscow is notorious for it's traffic, so using public transport may be faster than taking a taxi for long distances. Real-time public transit applications are available for all of the World Cup cities in Mitty. Public transport in Russia is rare after 23:00, but the metro usually runs until 1 am.

While getting around on a taxi, it is better to use Yandex Taxi instead of Uber, as it has more cars available and is cheaper. You can access Yandex Taxi through Mitty as well.

3. Bring some cash and be mindful of prices

Not all places accept credit cards, so keeping spare cash with you is a must. It's better to exchange your money in advance to get the best rate. However, if you are planning to exchange your money in Russia, then change your money in banks. The largest bank in Russia is Sberbank (Сбербанк), it has thousands of branches in Russian cities. The brand color of the company is green.

As a tourist you will probably pay slightly more then locals. Ask your hotel reception or local friends about average prices.

4. Learn Cyrillic and main phrases

If you don't have time to learn to speak Russian, try to learn to read the most necessary words that can be useful like “exit” (Выход), “entrance” (Вход), “restaurant” (Ресторан), “pharmacy” (Аптека), etc. In addition, speaking in Russian to locals will definitely be a nice icebreaker, so it will definitely help to impress the occasional local. Privet is Hello, Spasibo is Thank You, Poka is Bye. Try not to say "Za Zdorovie" as it is very cliche and actually nobody says that.

Buy a good dictionary with useful Russian words and phrases, which will help you to identify important places in the city, to read menu, to use public transport.

5. Weather

Russian weather is unpredictable. It can be raining in winter or snowing in spring. Although summer is generally nice and warm, even residents often don't know what to expect. Therefore, take umbrella, warm clothes as well as shorts and t-shirts.

6. Buy bottled water

Nobody drinks tap water in Russia. So when you come to a restaurant expect to see water in your bill. We won't start an argument of why it is so, but bottled water is definitely safe to drink. However, you will be fine brushing your teeth and taking shower with tap water, so don't be afraid of it completely.

You may find drinking water fountains on streets, but it's better to buy your bottle of ~~beer~~ water in advance.

7. Try local food. Expect something you have never tried before.

You definitely need to try local Russian cuisine. Beef Stroganoff, Borscht, Pelmeni, Vareniki, Fried Potatoes and Mushrooms, Olivier Salad, Pancakes are all must. However, try to keep it down with portions as local food is pretty heavy. To finish off, drink some "nastoika" (vodka infusion) or "kvas" (rye bread drink).

8. Respect local rules and customs

While you will be fine behaving the same way as in other Western Countries, there are still some rules that you shall know about. For example, it is better not to take pictures of government buildings as you may be fined for this. When visiting local orthodox churches, women need to cover their heads and wear long skirts (trousers are mostly allowed) and men should wear long trousers as well as take off any headwear. On the other hand, when going out to a nightclub, theatre or posh restaurant, it is better to dress up to avoid confusion. Ask your hotel or host about other things to know about.

9. Avoid tourist traps and scammers

As in any other touristic cities, small crimes such as pickpocketing are common in crowded places. Be mindful and taking exercise caution and be careful not to get scammed in tourist traps. If anything does happen, you can find local emergency numbers in Mitty app.

Holocaust Memorial is a memorial designed by architect Peter Eisenman and engineer Buro Happold. The Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall Memorial) commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred there. Museumsinsel

One island with five museums in the heart of Berlin. Museumsinsel (Museum Island) is a home to the legendary bust of Nefertiti and the Pergamon Altar – and five museums with works from Ancient Egypt, Byzantium and Berlin. The first museum on the island was the Altes Museum (Old Museum). Opened in 1830, it was designed to give the general public access to collections of art and historically important objects and artefacts. Nearly thirty years later, the Altes Museum was joined by the second Royal Prussian museum - today’s Neues Museum (New Museum). In 1876, a national gallery – now the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) – was added. The final two museums on Museum Island were only constructed in the early twentieth century: the Kaiser Friedrich Museum – today’s Bode-Museum – opened in 1904, and the Pergamon Museum in 1930. Fortunately, the plans for a gigantomaniac rebuild under the Nazi regime were never realised. The Second World War left much of the Museum Island badly damaged, and the Neues Museum in ruins. Since the Neue museum’s spectacular reopening in 2009, it has presented a selection of outstanding pieces from the Egyptian Museum, the Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, and the Collection of Classical Antiquities. The famous bust of the Ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti is the showpiece exhibit in the Neues Museum.

Brandenburger Tor

The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin's most important monuments – a landmark and symbol all in one with over two hundred years of history. A former symbol of the divided city, it drew visitors who used to climb an observation platform in order to get a glimpse of the world behind the Iron Curtain, on the other side of the barren "death-strip" which separated East from West Berlin, geographically and politically. It was here that on June 12, 1987, Ronald Regan issued his stern command to his cold war adversary admonishing him with the words: "Mr. Gorbachov – tear down this wall!". Because of heavy traffic, it is recommended to use one of two underpasses located at the Champs Élysées and the Avenue de la Grande Armée. Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris

A quintessential Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris, is Paris' most visited unticketed site. An acting Catholic Church, a masterpiece of French Gothic Architecture and the home of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Built on a site occupied by earlier churches and, a millennium before that, a Gallo-Roman temple, Cathédrale Notre Dame was begun in 1163 and largely completed by the early 14th century. Everyone’s Story

Let’s remember those good old days when our ancestors were travelling by feet, spending weeks on a journey from one village to another. Then someone discovered a horse, awesome, now it takes only a couple of days to get to the closest city. Fast forward and thankfully those days have passed, travelling time was significantly cut by trains, journeys are now also much more comfortable. A little after the trains, Henry Ford invented the first car and people can now enjoy some road trips. Finally, it is the year 2018 and we have planes making it possible for us to have breakfast in London and finish the day with a dinner in Hong Kong.

Throughout the centuries visionaries who were creating first cars and planes or that guy who was the first one to jump on the horse were driven by two principals: making it easier to travel and making it faster to travel. Travelling is still both exciting and exhausting and every year we are finding ways to make it swifter and more convenient.

Technological innovation is what drives our world forward. From technological progress of the 20th century with physical innovations such as cars, planes and even rockets, we now moved to digital technological progress of the 21st century. These days, smartphones and applications are the tools we use to make our lives easier. So the marriage of digital technology and travel industry was the most logical thing to make our travels easier. We happily use applications to purchase tickets, track our flights, get a taxi and navigate around a new travel destination.

Relax

We will all agree that travelling should be more about relaxing and enjoying your time, and less about confusingly navigating through the new city’s jungles. However, when you find yourself in a new place, you probably have already spent hours researching the local apps, or about to spend your precious time on this. Here is the case — every city you go to plays by its own rules. It has its own transport system, restaurant chains and taxi supplier. If in 2000 you would buy a guide before coming to the city, in 2018 you have apps navigating and directing you. A perfectly organized system with one major flaw — it became too big. In 2018 there are approximately 4 million applications flooding our phones. It became harder and longer to find the right tool in this application overload. The tools to make our travels easier are definitely there, but the time it takes for us to find them is all-consuming.

Apps taking over the world.

You are probably very familiar with the essential apps in your city, but when you travel to a new place, you find yourself absolutely vulnerable and clueless. For instance: whenever we got friends coming to London, the first thing we advise them to download is a Citymapper app to ease their time navigating the town. Another thing you’ll come across is familiar apps that are non-existent in the place you are travelling to. There are other apps doing the same thing but having different names and focusing on their market. If you live in the States you probably never heard about Deliveroo, if you live in the UK you probably never heard about Foodpanda. If you live in Singapore, you never heard of Postmates. Deliveroo, Foodpanda and Postmates are all food delivery apps, but they are located on different continents, on the opposite sides of the world.

Who we are

We are a team of developers who are fed up with spending too much time on googling basic things while we are supposed to enjoy traveling. We wanted to reduce the hassle and help travelers enjoy their hard-earned vacations. So today, we’re introducing a new mobile app to help you use the best services in the new city instantly. Combined with our belief that an individual does not need hundreds of apps and will eventually use 10–15 most essential ones, we thought having all the services in one place is a way to go.

Introducing Mitty

Mitty is a Swiss-army knife travel app. Think of it as a local person, the best you can find, that will show you all the best services that the world’s most visited cities have to offer. Using instant app technology, Mitty provides the user with a single and most convenient option to: 🍔 Order food delivery, 🚄 Book train tickets, 🏨 Book a hotel, 🎢 Browse and buy experiences, 🚌 Use public Transport, 🚕 Request a taxi, 🚗 Rent a car, ✈️ Book a flight, 🍽️ Reserve a restaurant, 🍿 Buy cinema ticket, 🎫 Browse coupons, 🛍️ Order grocery delivery, ⛱️ Purchase travel insurance and🆘 Call emergency numbers. All you need, including the weather forecast (It might seem sensible to pack flip-flops to London during summertime, but London has a plan of its own), is gathered in one place which keeps your mind and your desktop clean.

How do we know we offer the best

We decided to integrate local leaders for each service category so that travellers don’t need to decide on which service provider to choose from. Our methodology takes into consideration following factors: popularity, interface design, functionality. For example, OpenTable will be preferred restaurant booking platform for American and European cities, whereas Zomato will be preferred in Dubai since it has significantly more restaurants to choose from in that region. We are open to suggestions from the community, so users can add a suggestion for better service provider inside the app in accounts tab.

Here is how it works:

1. Travel around 11 most visited cities + San Francisco

We have started with 11 most visited cities + San Francisco (just because we love you tech guys). We promise to regularly add more cities, so let us know in the comments where you are planning to head off this year and we will make sure that Mitty is working there.

2. Choose the service

After that Mitty opens 15 services to choose from. Availability of services will change depending on location. Apparently, there is no railway in Dubai, hence, no train booking app. In other cases, additional tabs will be shown. We also installed Emergency Numbers tab, just in case. It also shows your address wherever you are.

3. Instant access

After that — magic happens. You are directed to the best available service provider in the city in the respective category. No need go to AppStore, type the name of the app and wait until it will be downloaded. Just tap and the service is open. You can delete all the other apps clattering your desktop and save some storage for your photos.

4. Do something else

We have also added basic information about the city and created a list of attractions you shouldn’t miss. Read through our handy guide and book your tickets straight away.
